Procedure Detail

Ultrasound

A radiation-free, painless and fast diagnostic method that visualizes organs and tissues using sound waves.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound (ultrasonography) is an imaging method that creates real-time images from the reflection of high-frequency sound waves off organs and tissues inside the body. Because it does not involve radiation, it is safe and can be used comfortably in many areas, including pregnancy follow-up. At our center, abdominal, thyroid, pelvic and obstetric ultrasound examinations are performed by a specialist physician.

When is this procedure needed?

  • For abdominal pain, digestive complaints, or evaluation of the liver, gallbladder and kidneys
  • When there is suspicion of a nodule or enlargement in the thyroid gland
  • For gynecological evaluation and examination of the pelvic organs
  • For pregnancy follow-up and monitoring fetal development (obstetric ultrasound)

How to prepare

  1. FastingFor abdominal ultrasound, fasting for 6–8 hours is usually required. Follow your physician's guidance.
  2. Water intakeFor pelvic/obstetric exams, you may need to drink water beforehand so the bladder is full.
  3. ClothingWear comfortable clothes that allow easy access to the area being examined.
  4. Previous testsBring your previous ultrasound and test results if available.

How the process works

During the procedure, a thin gel is applied to the relevant area and a probe is moved over the skin to obtain images. The procedure is painless and usually takes 10–20 minutes depending on its scope. When the examination is complete, the gel is cleaned off and you can immediately return to your daily life. Findings are evaluated and reported by the physician.
